>> Thursday, May 27, 2010

Summer vacations at the Mountain Rose Inn in the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA are not complete until you have spent a day at Ferrum College located on Rt 40 between Woolwine and Rocky Mount, VA. This beautiful campus is home to the Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre and the Blue Ridge Institute and Museum.

The 31st season of delightful productions at the Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre begins on June 5. This talented troupe has such productions as Steel Magnolias, The Wizard of Oz and Blue Suede Shoes planned for the summer of 2010. Afternoon matinees and evening performances are scheduled. View the performance schedule and purchase your tickets online.

The Blue Ridge Institute and Museum, also located on the Ferrum College Campus, is known for its focus on the folklore of life in the Blue Ridge. "For over 30 years Ferrum College's Blue Ridge Institute & Museum has documented the folkways of the people living in and around the Blue Ridge Mountains. Through gallery exhibits, the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival, the Blue Ridge Farm Museum, the Blue Ridge Heritage Archive, the BRI Recordings series and innovative outreach programming, the BRI promotes a special understanding of regional folklife for all ages and audiences. At the same time the Institute's focus adds a unique element to Ferrum College's modern academic programs." The current exhibit, "Rockabilly in the Commonwealth", explores the careers of rockers from the state of VA during the 1950s.

There really is something for everyone in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest VA!

Happy vacation planning,
Dora Jane
