Two Great Weekend Events at Chateau Morrisette
>> Friday, September 9, 2011
Here at the Inn, we are always pleased to hear that our guests are planning a weekend that includes time spent at the Chateau Morrisette. They always return with wonderful stories of the great time they had visiting this VA winery.
The Chateau Morrisette has 2 wonderful weekend events on their calendar. If you are in the area, check one or both of them out.
Pet Adoption Day - Sun, Sept. 11 – 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Where else but Chateau Morrisette can you drink wine and listen to live music while you pick out a new pet? Dozens of dogs and cats will be at the winery's courtyard looking for new homes during their 5th annual Pet Adoption Day. The hard-working folks at the Floyd County Humane Society will be on hand to help you pick out the perfect companion, and to aid you through the adoption process. They'll also take care of all necessary tests, shots, and grooming--all you need to bring is an open heart!
Wine & Cheese: The Perfect Pair - Sat, Sept. 17 – 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.
When it comes to wine and cheese pairing, the savvy host need only know a few basic truths to create crowd-pleasing flavor combinations. Whether it's pairing sweet or fruity white wines with mild cheeses or dry reds with boldly flavored cheeses; learn how to expertly match wines with cheeses of all kinds at the Chateau's Fall Wine and Cheese Tasting. Let your tastebuds--and their pairing expert--be your guide as you learn the dos and don'ts of this classic duo. $18 per person includes wine, cheese and pairing information. Reservations and non-refundable pre-payment are required, as space is limited. Call 540.593.2865 for reservations.

Blackberry Wine Cake with Chateau Morrisette's Blackberry Wine
>> Saturday, March 5, 2011
This recipe was shared with me by Lesli who is on our team here at the Inn after she saw a bottle of Chateau Morrisette's Blackberry Wine on the Inn's table. It is a yummy and easy recipe that I like to make for afternoon dessert here at the Inn. One guest liked it so much that he ate 4 pieces in one sitting! I'm sure that some of you talented chefs could easily convert the cake mix into the needed ingredients so that it would be a completely made-from-scratch cake. And of course, the Blackberry Wine from Chateau Morrisette is only wine to use!
Blackberry Wine Cake
1 box white cake mix
1 box blackberry jello
4 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup Blackberry Wine
Preheat oven to 355°. (Yes, 355° not 350°.) Mix cake mix & jello together. Add in slightly beaten eggs, oil & wine. Pour into greased bundt pan and bake for 45-55 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool on wire rack. Invert on cake plate and drizzle with glaze.
Glaze:
2 cups confectioners sugar
1/2 cup blackberry wine
I'm thinking a slice of cake sounds really good about now. Guess I'd better head to the kitchen. :)
Happy cooking!
